My first juice cleanse
New year, new you blah blah blah.
I’ve never been one to make New Year resolutions, but this year I have three. And like the majority of the nation, eating healthier is at the top of my list.
**I should start this post off by saying that I did this SO WRONG. I thought it was a juice cleanse, but these juices were NOT meant to be our only meals for 3 days. I learned this afterwards, once I started blogging about my experience.**
Tom & I were at Costco a few days before NYE, buying veggies and other not-too-terrible-for-you items, when I spotted the Suja Organic 3-Day Renewal. I liked that the juices were organic, non-gmo and only $20. We both decided we wanted to give it a try and start the year healthy and cleansed, so we grabbed two boxes.
Ok, now for how we did this wrong. So the Costco pack comes with 9 juices and a meal plan. Now I probably should have read the pamphlet it came with, but I assumed the meal plan was in case you got hungry enough and NEEDED to eat something. I was wrong about this, since the description online says “You’ll enjoy an Organic Suja juice for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, plus three mini-meals in between to indulge your desire to chew while keeping everything you’re consuming light and clean.”
Oops!!! We only drank the juices each day.
(Don’t tell Tom)
But hey, less calories means more weight loss…right? Heh yeah, you should stick to their instructions. Suja does offer juice only cleanses, but you drink 6 juices per day. (Again, don’t tell Tom)
Honestly, the three days of juice weren’t too hard. I only enjoyed drinking one of the three, but they were all fairly easy to get down.
The morning juice has cayenne pepper in it. There are other flavors and ingredients as well, but it’s pretty impossible to get around the pepper flavor. A bit spicy and my least favorite.
On our first day, we were about to start the second juice and Tom says, “As long as this one doesn’t taste like cayenne pepper…” *sip* “Explicit.”
It tasted a lot better, but still very peppery.
The third juice…AWESOME! It was the thickest drink, sweet, and a bit chalky. This was pretty much the only drink that felt like it had substance and made me feel full.
Despite my deep love for food, I knew I could make it through the cleanse pretty easily. I had my practice of not eating (or eating very little) during my pageant days. It was mainly Tom that surprised me by getting through this! He’s a trooper.
Was I hungry? Surprisingly, my hunger levels weren’t too bad. Tom would tell you otherwise and say he STARVED.
Each day we also hiked Diamond Head, so were getting about an hour of exercise during the cleanse.
We did it! Incorrectly, but still…
Results: We each dropped 8 pounds. Granted it was mostly water weight, but still a decent way to kick off the New Year!
